Detailed Solution
Download Solution PDFGiven:
A student walked 6 km from his house to reach the metro station, then boarded a metro that has an average speed of 60 km/h, and reached the destination.
It took 3 hours for the entire journey.
The average speed of the entire journey is 32 km/h.
Concept used:
1. Average speed = Total distance covered ÷ Total time taken
2. Distance = Speed × Time
Calculation:
Total distance travelled by him = 32 × 3 = 96 km
Distance covered on metro = 96 - 6 = 90 km
Time taken by the metro to cover 90 km = 90/60 = 1.5 hours
Remaining time = 3 - 1.5 = 1.5 hours
Speed of walking = 6 ÷ 1.5 = 4 km/h
∴ The speed of walking is 4 km/h.
