Question
Download Solution PDFAnand covers a certain distance in the first lag of 5 hours at the speed of 50 km/h. In the second lag, he increased the speed by 20% due to which he covered 20% extra distance than that of the first lag. He covered the third lag at the average speed of the first two lags and covered 10% extra distance than that of the second lag distance. How much total time (in hours) did he take to complete all three lags?
Answer (Detailed Solution Below)
Detailed Solution
Download Solution PDFGiven
Time = 5 hours
Speed = 50 km/hr
Formula used
Speed = Distance/Time
Calculation
Distance = 50 × 5 = 250 km
In the second lag:
Distance = 250 + 250 × 120/100 = 300 km
Speed = 50 + 50 × 120/100 = 60 km/hr
Time = 300/60 = 5 hours
In the third lag:
Distance = 300 + 300 × 110/100 = 330 km
Speed = (60 + 50)/2 = 55 km/hr
Time = 330/55 = 6 hours
Total time = 5 + 5 + 6 = 16 hours
The answer is 16 hours.
