Answer (Detailed Solution Below)
Detailed Solution
Download Solution PDFGiven:
A policeman sees a chain snatcher at a distance of 500 m.
Speed of the snatcher = 5 m/s
Speed of the policeman = 15 m/s
Concept used:
1. Time taken to meet for two objects coming towards each other = Intermediary distance ÷ Relative speed
2. Relative speed is the difference between individual speeds while two objects run in the same direction.
3. Distance = Speed × Time
4. km/h = 5/18 m/s
Calculation:
Time taken to catch the snatcher by the policeman = 500 ÷ (15 - 5) = 50 seconds
Now, the distance covered by the chain snatcher when he is caught by the policeman = 50 × 5 = 250 m
∴ The distance covered by the chain snatcher when he is caught by the policeman is 250 m.
