Objective:

To understand the fundamental methods involved in reshaping a glass tube into a jet.

Necessary Materials:

• A glass tube measuring approximately 20-25 cm in length
• A triangular file
• Bunsen Burner
• Sandpaper

Steps:

• Choose a glass tube of suitable diameter for reshaping into a jet.
• Use a triangular file to trim the glass tube to the desired length.
• Heat the tube using the Bunsen burner, making sure to hold it at both ends and rotate it slowly.
• Continue the rotation until the part of the tube in the flame turns red hot and soft.
• Once the tube is sufficiently softened, remove it from the flame and gently pull the ends apart, allowing the middle to narrow and eventually form a fine jet.
• Cut the tube at the narrowed point and use sandpaper to smooth the ends. Continue to fire polish until the ends are smooth.

Safety Measures:

• Ensure to pull the softened part of the glass tube gently to maintain an even thinness.
• Avoid touching the red hot portion of the tube to prevent any potential injury.
