In electricity, we come through many aspects on which electric current is dependent. Two characteristics on which an electric current is dependent are watts and volts. Both these are the S.I. units of electric power and electric voltage respectively. Both these units are essential for the electric field and electrical engineering. Both these units are very different from each other and can never be used interchangeably. A watt can be defined as the S.I. unit of electric power which is the rate of performing work when one ampere of current is flowing across the one volt of the potential difference.

A volt can be defined as the S.I. unit of the potential difference which flows through two terminals of a wire which is capable of conducting electric current. It is measured by a voltmeter. It has subunits like microvolt, millivolt, kilovolt, etc.
