Detailed Solution
Download Solution PDFGiven:
A person's present age is two-fifth of the age of his mother. After 8 years, he will be one half of the age of his mother.
Calculations:
Let the present age of the person be P years.
Let the present age of the mother be M years.
After 8 years, the age of the person will be P + 8 and the age of the mother will be M + 8.
(P + 8) = 1/2(M + 8)
As, P = (2/5)M
So, (2/5)M + 8 = 1/2(M + 8)
⇒ 2M + 40 = 5/2(M + 8)
⇒ 4M + 80 = 5M + 40
⇒ M = 40
∴ The correct answer is option (2).
