An Introduction to Sertoli Cells

Sertoli cells, predominantly found in males, are crucial for sperm production. These large, interconnected cells are typically situated near the basolateral area of the seminiferous tubule. They originate from the epithelial sex cords in the developing gonads and play a pivotal role in the process of spermatogenesis.

Secretions of Sertoli Cells

The following substances are secreted by Sertoli cells:

  • Anti-Müllerian hormone (AMH)
  • Inhibin
  • Activin
  • Testosterone binding globulin
  • Transferrin
  • Testicular ceruloplasmin
