Bajra, commonly known as Pearl millet, is a grain that has been cultivated in India and Africa since ancient times. It's part of the Pennisetum family and falls under the Poaceae genus.
This particular millet variety is known for its resilience and ability to grow in arid regions with poor soil fertility. It's also capable of thriving in soils with a low pH or high salinity levels, making it a suitable choice for areas where other grains like wheat may not survive.
Interestingly, Bajra is one of the oldest cultivated crops, with archaeological evidence suggesting its cultivation dates back to around 2000-2500 BC. It is a critical crop in many regions due to its ability to withstand extreme weather conditions, such as droughts and floods.
