Detailed Solution
Download Solution PDFPower transistor:
- They are used in high power amplification application.
- It is designed specifically to control high current – voltage ratings and very high power in the circuit.
- The power transistor is a three-layer NPN and PNP device.
- In this type of transistors collector current Ic is the function of base current IB i.e. a change in the base current giving a corresponding amplified change in the collector current for a given collector-emitter voltage VCE.
- Transistors can act as open or close switch depends on the base current.
- If the base current is zero, then the collector current is very small leakage current, and hence under there conditions transistor act as an open switch.
- If a sufficient amount of base current is supplied which drives the transistor into a saturation state then the transistor acts as a close switch.
Note:
Remember that base current IB is the controlling parameter and collector current Ic is the controlled parameter of the power transistors.
