Concept-

Breast self-examination

  • Examining your breast by standing in front of a mirror or lying down or standing without a mirror is called breast self-examination.
  • By touching or pressing the skin around your breast with the finger, it should be seen if there is anything like a lump or lump in the breast.
  • What are the things that need to be kept in mind while examining the breast-
    • Breast lump or not
    • No breast tumour
    • No change in breast size
  • In fact, self-examination at home can reduce the chances of getting breast cancer. Because if you do a regular breast examination, then if there is a lump in the breast or if there is a change in its size-shape, it is immediately caught. That is, if breast cancer is detected in the first stage, then the chances of complete recovery are high. That's why regular breast exams are necessary.

Important Points

Breast Self-Exam (BSE) can be done every month. Become familiar with how your breasts usually look and feel to be able to notice any changes from normal.

  • If there are menses, the best time to do BSE is 7 to 10 days after the first days of menses. These are the days when breasts are least likely to be tender or swollen.
  • If there are no longer periods, choose a certain day - such as the first day of each month.
  • If taking hormones, talk to your doctor about when to do BSE.
