Detailed Solution
Download Solution PDFAmong the following options, Reluctance motor is a 1ϕ synchronous motor.
Switched reluctance motor
- The switched reluctance motor is a doubly salient, singly excited motor that produces torque at synchronous speed.
- It has salient poles on both the rotor and the stator, but only the stator carries windings. The rotor has no windings; magnet or cage windings but is built up from stacks of salient pole laminations.
- The working principle of the switched reluctance motor is, that it works on the principle of variable reluctance which means, the rotor of this motor constantly tries to align through the lowest reluctance lane.
- The switched reluctance motor operates by creating magnetic fields in the stator and rotor. The rotor, which is made of ferromagnetic material but has no windings, aligns itself with the stator poles where the magnetic field is strongest, producing rotational motion.
- Switched reluctance motors do not use brushes and a commutator. Instead, they use electronic switching to control the current in the stator windings.
- Switched reluctance motors do not use permanent magnets. The rotor in an SRM is made of ferromagnetic material without any permanent magnets.
- It is a stepper motor with closed-loop control and with rotor position sensor. It is designed for high speed and the closed loop system is necessary.
- It is normally necessary to use a rotor position sensor for communication and speed feedback. The turning ON and OFF operation of the various devices of the power semiconductor switching circuit are influenced by signals obtained from the rotor position sensor.
