The Institute of Banking Personnel Selection (IBPS) will announce the IBPS PO Selection Process 2024 with the IBPS PO Recruitment 2024 notification on its official website. The selection process for recruiting Probationary Officers quite necessarily first takes into account the eligibility criteria drawn by IBPS and turns out to be quite important to be checked before applying for the 3049 vacancies.

  • As per the previous recruitment cycle, the IBPS Selection Process for PO consists of three stages viz. Preliminary Examination, followed by Mains Examination, and Interview round,

IBPS PO Pre-Examination Training

Notably, the pre-exam training for IBPS PO post is not a stage of the selection process, and merely appearing in it doesn’t mean getting directly recruited to an IBPS organization. It is conducted by the Nodal Banks/ Participating Organisations to train a limited number of candidates belonging to SC/ST/Minorities. Candidates who want to opt for this training must do so in their online application. Excluded from the training costs, all other traveling and accommodation expenses must be borne by the candidates. IBPS PO Selection Process: Preliminary Examination

Candidates need to step into the first stage of the IBPS PO Selection Process i..e, the Preliminary exam which consists of objective-type questions, conducted online. Aspirants have to score both the sectional and overall cutoff to ace the Prelims stage. Although this stage is conducted for 100 marks, divided across three sections i.e., English, Reasoning, and Quantitative Aptitude, there is a negative marking of 0.25 marks for every wrong attempt.

  • To qualify for the exam, candidates need to secure the minimum cut-off marks decided by the governing authority in all three sections as well as overall.
  • Prelims is only a qualifying exam and the marks obtained in this section will not be counted later for merit list preparation.
  • Marks obtained by a candidate in the Prelims phase will not be added to the interview or be considered for the final allotment of the post.

IBPS PO Selection Process: Mains Examination

Only those adequate number of aspirants securing the minimum IBPS PO Cut Offs for each category will be shortlisted for the second selection stage i.e., Mains examination. Similar to Prelims, it’s also an online stage with a deduction of 0.25 marks for every wrong answer. Both objective and descriptive questions worth a total of 225 marks will be asked from 5 broad sections, allotted to sectional timings. IBPS PO Selection Process: Interview

To be eligible for IBPS PO Interview, aspirants must earn a minimum score in each test of the Main exam, as well as a minimum total score. Candidates will be shortlisted for interviews based on cut-offs and that of the number of IBPS PO Vacancies. Scores obtained in the IBPS PO Mains will not be shared with candidates shortlisted for the final Interview prior to the end of the round. The key points of this final round of the IBPS PO Selection Process are as follows -

  • Qualification in both Prelims and Mains exam is required to appear for this Personal Interview round. But marks obtained in IBPS PO Mains will only be considered for Interview shortlisting and in the final merit list.
  • This round will carry a total of 100 marks.
  • A weightage of 80:20 ratio will be taken for the final merit list from Mains and Interview respectively.
  • Candidates securing at least 40% marks (35% for SC/ST/OBC/PWBD) will be shortlisted on the merit list, published once the Interview stage gets over.

What Next After the Completion of IBPS PO Selection Process 2024?

Provisional Selection

Once candidates have successfully cleared the Prelims, Mains, and Interview round, they will be provisionally selected in one of the Participating Organisations based on category-wise merit preference, Govt. reservation policies, and various guidelines issued by Govt. of India/Others from time to time, administrative exigency, etc.

Identity Verification

Although the IBPS PO Document Verification stage is not included in the selection process but candidates must produce the following documents in all three stages of the IBPS PO Selection Process 2024 as mentioned below -

  • Valid Call Letter for the respective date and session of the exam
  • Photo-identity proof (as specified) in original having the same name as it appears on the admit card/application form
  • Photocopy of any photo-identity proof such as PAN Card/ Passport/ Permanent Driving License/ Voter’s Card/ Bank Passbook with photograph/ ID proof issued by a Gazetted Officer/ People’s Representative along with a photograph / College Identity Card/ Aadhar/ E-Aadhar card with a photograph / Employee ID
  • Educational certificates (Graduation certificate/Marksheet/equivalent qualification proof) dated on or before August 2024.
  • Cast certificate issued by the state Tehsildar/District Magistrate in a prescribed format. Also, the OBC caste certificate must mention ‘Non-creamy Layer’.
  • For EWS candidates, Income & Asset Certificate issued by the tehsildar/District Magistrate in a format prescribed by the Government of India.
  • For PWD candidates, a disability certificate issued by the District Medical Board is compulsory.
  • If a candidate uses the services of a scribe, then he/she has to disclose full details of the scribe in a prescribed format.
  • Ex-servicemen have to produce a copy of their discharge from the service along with a pension payment order and documentary evidence of the rank they held.
  • Persons claiming to be from the state of Jammu & Kashmir must produce a domicile certificate.
  • Persons affected by the 1984 riots are eligible for age relaxation but they must produce a certificate from the District Magistrate stating the same.

IBPS PO Selection Process 2024 FAQs

The selection process for the IBPS PO 2024 is divided into three stages – Prelims exam, Mains Exam, and Interview.

Yes, 0.25 marks will be deducted for every wrong attempt made in both Prelims and Mains stage.

Candidates have to carry a few key documents such as a valid call letter, one Photo ID proof (Aadhar card, PAN card, Passport, Voter ID, College/University Identity Card), and a photocopy of the Photo ID proof in all the stages of the selection process.

Although IBPS PO Pre-exam training depends on the COVID-19 reservations, candidates can wish to opt for this training during the time of online registration itself.

The IBPS PO Prelims stage will be conducted for a duration of 60 minutes whereas the Mains exam will be held for a longer duration of 3 hours 30 minutes.
