The NCET tests the knowledge and skills of the candidates in the relevant subjects of teaching, such as General Knowledge, English, and subject-specific areas.

Having successfully qualified the NCET, the candidates are eligible for the next phase of the admission process, which is counselling. In the counselling phase, all qualified candidates are allotted seats based on their performance in NCET, rank, and preferences of institutes. They can select institutes offering the ITEP course based on the availability of seats, their preferences, and eligibility criteria.
