Tipu Sultan also called the Tiger of Mysore, or Tippoo Sahib by the Britishers was the Indian Ruler who resisted the East India Company's conquest of southern India.
He was the ruler of Mysore and a pioneer of rocket artillery.
He was born on 20 November 1750 in Devanahalli and died on 4 May 1799 in Srirangapatnam, who won fame in the wars of the late 18th century in southern India.
The Treaty of Seringapatam(1792) is associated with Tipu Sultan.
Tipu Sultan was killed while defending his capital Seringapatam.
Tipu was instructed in Military tactics by French officers in the employ of his father, Hyder Ali, who was the Muslim ruler of Mysore.
In 1767 Tipu commanded a corps of Cavalry against the Marathas in the Carnatic region of Western India, and he fought against the Marathas on several occasions between 1775 and 1779.
During the second Mysore War, he defeated Col. John Brathwaite on the banks of the Kollidam river in 1782.
