Flow along a curved path:
The flow along a curved path for a fluid is known as a vortex.
There are two types of vortex flow as follows:
- Free vortex
- Forced vortex
Free vortex:
In the free vortex, the angular momentum remains the same while in the forced vortex the angular momentum changes along the path.
Forced vortex:
Forced vortex is a result of a net external torque which is responsible for the change in the angular momentum (moment of momentum).
Torque:
It is defined as the rate of change of angular momentum.
Hence, the change in the moment of momentum of a fluid due to flow along a curved path results in Torque.Last updated on May 19, 2025
