The Rashtriya Madhyamik Shiksha Abhiyan was launched in March 2009.

Key Points

It was launched from Uttar Pradesh to the whole of India.
It is a centrally sponsored scheme in the ratio of 60:40 for general category States, 90:10 for special category states.
The objective of the scheme is to enhance access to secondary education and to improve its quality.
In a habitation, a high school to be established in a radius of 5 km and an inter-college in a radius of 7 km.
The implementation of the scheme started in 2009-10.
Important physical facilities provided under the scheme are:
- Additional classrooms
- Laboratories
- Libraries
- Art and crafts room
- Residential Hostels for Teachers in remote areas
In 2018, it has been integrated with Sarva Siksha Abhiyan and Teacher Education (TE) and named as Samagra Shiksha Abhiyan.

Thus, 'RMSA' means Rashtriya Madhyamik Shiksha Abhiyan.
