f (x) = [x], x ∈R द्वारा परिभाषित वास्तविक फलन f: R → R, x से कम या उसके बराबर सबसे बड़े पूर्णांक फलन का मान लेता है, उसे सबसे बड़ा पूर्णांक फलन कहा जाता है। 

इसलिए – 1 ≤ x < 0 के लिए  f (x) = [x] = – 1 

और 0 ≤ x < 1 के लिए f (x) = [x] = 0 है। 

1 ≤ x < 2 के लिए [x] = 1 है।
