A trader sold a washing machine for Rs. 28,750 at a gain of 15% and micro-oven for Rs. 18,768 at a loss of 8%.

Concept used:

Selling Price = Cost Price × (1 + Gain%)

Selling Price = Cost Price × (1 - Loss%)

Profit% = \({(Selling\ Price\ -\ Cost\ Price) \over Cost\ Price} \times 100\%\)

Calculation:

Cost price of the washing machine = 28750 ÷ (1 + 15%)

⇒ 28750/1.15 = Rs. 25,000

Cost price of the micro-oven = 18768 ÷ (1 - 8%)

⇒ 18768/0.92 = Rs. 20,400

Total cost price = 25000 + 20400 = Rs. 45,400

Total selling price = 28,750 + 18,768 = Rs. 47,518

Now, the profit% = \(\frac{47518 - 45400}{45400} \times 100\%\)

⇒ 4.665% ≈ 4.7%

∴ There's a profit of 4.7% in the entire transaction.
