Question
Download Solution PDFA circus tent is cylindrical to a height of 3 m and conical above it. If the base radius is 52.5 m and slant height of the cone is 53 m, find the area of canvas required to make the tent.
Answer (Detailed Solution Below)
Detailed Solution
Download Solution PDFGiven:
Height of cylindrical tent = 3 m
Radius of tent = 52.5 m
The slant height of the cone = 53 m
Concept:
The slant height of cone = L2 = H2 + R2
The curved surface area of cylinder = 2πRH
The curved surface area of cone = πRL
Calculation:
The area of canvas is required to make the tent = CSA of cylinder + CSA of cone
⇒ 2πRH + πRL = πR(2H + L)
⇒ π × 52.5 ( 2 × 3 + 53)
⇒ π × 52.5 × 59 = 3097.5 π m2
∴ The correct answer is 3097.5 π m2.
