Which of the following is correct?

Concept:

The toughness test is conducted to study the behavior of the material under dynamic load conditions (at a high rate of loading).

Two tests are there for toughness test:

1. Charpy Impact test
2. Izod impact test

Izod test:

• In the Izod test the specimen is positioned like a cantilever beam i.e. one end is fixed and the other is free.
• At the center of specimen V notch is created to initiate crack.
• The notch angle of the Izod impact test specimen is 45°
• The Izod test gives nonuniform stress distribution because of cantilever arrangement and hence is not more accurate.​

Charpy test:

• The Charpy geometry consists of a simply supported beam with a centrally applied load on the reverse side of beam from the notch.
• The notch serves to create a stress concentration and to produce a constrained multiaxial state of tension a small distance below the bottom of Notch.
