Concept:

When capacitors are connected in parallel, the total capacitance is the sum of the individual capacitance values, i.e.

Also, when capacitors are connected in series, the total capacitance is given by:

Calculation:

Let the two capacitances be C1 and C2.

Given:

C1 + C2 = 25   ---(1)

   ---(2)

Using Equation (1):

C1 = 25 - C2

Substituting this in Equation (2), we get:

C2 (C2 - 15) - 10 (C2 - 15) = 0

(C2 - 15) (C2 - 10) = 0

C2 = 15 F or 10 F

C1 = 25 - 15 = 10 F 'or' 25 - 10 = 15 F
