Rahul's present age = 3 × Daughter's present age

After 8 years, Rahul's age = 2 × Daughter's age + 5

Formula used:

Let daughter's present age = x

Then Rahul's present age = 3x

Calculation:

After 8 years:

Rahul's age = 3x + 8

Daughter's age = x + 8

Given: 3x + 8 = 2(x + 8) + 5

⇒ 3x + 8 = 2x + 16 + 5

⇒ 3x + 8 = 2x + 21

⇒ 3x - 2x = 21 - 8

⇒ x = 13

Rahul's present age = 3 × 13 = 39

∴ The correct answer is 39 years.
