Nawaz Sharif Admits Pakistan Broke Lahore Agreement; Viral Speech Sparks Controversy

Pakistan violated the 1999 Lahaul Agreement when Pervez Musharraf secretly deployed troops to Kargil, sparking the Kargil war with India. Former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has confessed to this act 25 years later.

Yes, Pakistan cheated and violated the Lahaul Agreement of 1999. At that time, Pervez Musharraf, the chief of Pakistan’s army, secretly deployed troops to Kargil, leading to the outbreak of the Kargil war between India and Pakistan. After 25 years, former Prime Minister of Pakistan Nawaz Sharif has confessed to this act.

One of his speeches is going viral on social media, where he admits Pakistan’s mistake. In it, he acknowledges that violating the 1999 Lahore Agreement was a mistake by Pakistan. The agreement, also signed by then Indian Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, was broken by Pakistan, causing suffering for both countries.

Nawaz Sharif addressed various issues during a Pakistan Muslim League (N) meeting. He revealed that on May 28, 1998, Pakistan conducted five nuclear tests. Following this, Atal Bihari Vajpayee visited Pakistan and signed an agreement, which their country later violated. Sharif admitted this was a mistake. On February 21, 1999, the Lahore Declaration, a peace agreement between the two neighboring countries, was signed.

The declaration included important rules and called for maintaining peace, security, and promoting people-to-people contact. However, a few months later, Pakistani infiltration in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kargil district led to the Kargil war. In March 1999, Pervez Musharraf ordered the Pakistani army to enter Ladakh’s Kargil district. After detecting the infiltration, India retaliated, resulting in a war that India ultimately won.

On the 26th anniversary of the first nuclear test, Nawaz Sharif revealed that President Bill Clinton had offered him $5 billion to prevent Pakistan from conducting nuclear tests, but he refused. He claimed that if Imran Khan had been in his position, Khan would have accepted Clinton’s offer. Sharif stated that a false case led to his removal as Prime Minister in 2017.

He accused Pakistan’s spy agency, Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI), of orchestrating a conspiracy against him to bring the now-jailed former prime minister Imran Khan to power. Sharif challenged Imran Khan, asking him not to blame others and to confirm whether former ISI chief General Zahirul Islam had discussed bringing Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) to power. He recounted that when he refused to resign as prime minister, they threatened to make an example of him.
