Missiles Fired At Radar Defense For Secret Iran Nuclear Site: Israel In ‘Message’

US media reported Friday that an alleged Israeli strike in Iran involved three missiles launched by Israeli Air Force warplanes, targeting an air defense radar site near Isfahan. The missiles, fired from outside Iranian airspace, aimed at the defense system near the Natanz nuclear site.

Israel: US media reported on Friday that an alleged Israeli strike in Iran overnight Thursday-Friday went beyond the several small drones mentioned by Tehran. The strike reportedly included three missiles launched by Israeli Air Force warplanes, targeting an air defense radar site near Isfahan, part of an array defending the nearby top-secret Natanz nuclear site.

According to reports initially published by ABC and later The New York Times, the missiles were fired from outside Iranian airspace. The ABC report described the strike as “very limited,” taking out the radar site, with the assessment yet to be completed.

It is not clear from the reports whether the missiles were in addition to the drones reported by Iran. The New York Times noted that the new information suggested the Israeli strike “included more advanced firepower than initial reports indicated.” However, it remains unclear what types of missiles were used, from where they were fired, whether any were intercepted by Iran’s defenses, or where they landed.

Earlier, Iran claimed that three small drones were involved in the attack on Isfahan. State TV reported that the small aircraft were destroyed by air defenses, making no mention of any missiles or damage in the attack.

Iranian authorities stated that air defenses fired at a major air base in Isfahan, which has long been home to Iran’s fleet of American-made F-14 Tomcats — purchased before the 1979 Islamic Revolution.
