The US Department of State Consular Affairs on Monday issued an alert for its citizens worldwide in view of the prevailing situation following the Operation Midnight Hammer. It stated that the ongoing conflict between Israel and Iran has resulted in disruptions to travel and periodic closure of airspace across the Middle East. The department has also expressed concern over the possibility of demonstrations against American citizens and interests abroad. In such situation, the department of State Consular Affairs has advised the US citizens to exercise increased caution.
The state department wrote on X, “The conflict between Israel and Iran has resulted in disruptions to travel and periodic closure of airspace across the Middle East. There is the potential for demonstrations against U.S. citizens and interests abroad. The Department of State advises U.S. citizens worldwide to exercise increased caution. Earlier on June 19, the US Embassy directed all its government employees and their family members in Israel, West Bank, and Gaza to continue to shelter in place until further notice. The order was issued as a result of the current security situation and ongoing conflict between Israel and Iran.
The directive read as: “The Department of State is planning for contingencies to assist with private U.S. citizens’ departure from Israel. We will alert the U.S. citizen community if there is additional information to share regarding departure options.”
It added, “If you are a U.S. citizen or Lawful Permanent Resident currently in Israel or the West Bank and seeking U.S. government assistance to depart, please visit the following link so the Department of State can better assist you and provide you with timely update.”
