US President Donald Trump on Monday announced that ‘some progress has been made’ in the prospects of a ceasefire negotiation between Russia and Ukraine. The significant development comes after Trump held a ‘two-and-a-half-hour’ call with Russian President Vladimir Putin on Monday. Speaking at a White House event on Monday, Trump expressed optimism about efforts to end the ongoing conflict between the two countries.
Trump Describes Conflict As ‘Terrible’ Situation
Trump described the situation as ‘terrible’, and claimed it includes the loss of 500 young lives weekly. During the bill signing ceremony, he said, “We are trying to get that entire thing wrapped up. What a shame it ever started in the first place.” Meanwhile, in a social media post around 11.20 pm on Monday, he wrote, “Just completed my two-hour call with President Vladimir Putin of Russia. I believe it went very well. Russia and Ukraine will immediately start negotiations toward a Ceasefire and, more importantly, an END to the War.”
“Tone & Spirit Of The Conversation Were Excellent”
The US President further stated, “The conditions for that will be negotiated between the two parties, as it can only be, because they know the details of a negotiation that nobody else would be aware of. The tone and spirit of the conversation were excellent. If it wasn’t, I would say so now, rather than later. Russia wants to do large-scale TRADE with the United States when this catastrophic “bloodbath” is over, and I agree.” He noted that there is a “tremendous opportunity for Russia to create massive amounts of jobs and wealth. Likewise, Ukraine can be a great beneficiary of Trade, in the process of rebuilding its Country.”

Putin After His Call With Trump
This development aligns with the Russian President’s remarks on his call with Trump. He said, “I would like to note that, on the whole, Russia’s position remains clear. The main thing is to eliminate the root causes of this crisis. We just need to determine the most effective ways to move towards peace.”
