New Delhi: A video of a Pakistani pilot wiping his plane’s windscreen just before takeoff has gone viral on social media. The clip captures a Serene Air pilot leaning out of the side window of an Airbus 330-200 to clean the windscreen for a clear view ahead.
The incident occurred on an international flight from Pakistan to Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, sparking an online discussion about airline safety protocols and the duties of ground staff.

The viral video sparked mixed reactions on social media. One user, amused, commented, “This is hilarious, only in Pakistan!” Another joked, “Is he a pilot or a bus conductor?”
One user quipped, “The pilot is doing overtime,” while another sarcastically remarked, “Thank goodness they’re not doing this in the sky, considering their incompetence.”
However, some users didn’t find the act unusual. Many were not surprised that the pilot cleaned the windscreen himself. One user commented, “Pilots clean windscreens all the time,” while another added, “Honestly, pilots do this, especially those who aren’t satisfied with the cleaning.”

One user shared several pictures of pilots cleaning windscreens themselves and said, “It’s quite common. If pilots choose to do it, that’s fine. They can ask for help, but if they prefer to do it themselves, it should be okay.”
Another user added, “It’s very common, and there’s nothing wrong with cleaning the glass of your vehicle. We all do it.”
The viral video surfaces as Pakistan faces significant economic challenges. Last year, the country nearly defaulted due to economic mismanagement, political turmoil, and severe monsoon floods.
A last-minute intervention with loans from friendly nations and support from the International Monetary Fund (IMF) offered some relief, but Pakistan’s financial situation remains fragile, with high inflation and heavy public debt.
In response, the IMF announced a new three-year agreement to help Pakistan achieve macroeconomic stability and encourage growth.
