American lawmaker Brandon Gill recently sparked widespread criticism over a post targeting Zohran Mamdani’s eating habits. Gill called the Indian-origin Democrat to “Go back to the third world” over an old video showcasing his eating habits. In the clip, Mamdani was spotted eating rice with his hands. Sharing the post, the Republican Congressman insisted that Mamdani should ‘adopt western customs.’ He wrote on X, “Civilized people in America don’t eat like this. If you refuse to adopt Western customs, go back to the Third World.”

Shortly after, Gill’s cutting remarks drew sharp rebuke from social media users who accused him of cultural intolerance. Some even pointed out that he has married an Indian-origin woman, Danielle D’Souza, the daughter of right-wing commentator Dinesh D’Souza. The criticism was further fueled after the Internet dug out old photos of Gill and his father-in-law eating Indian food using their hands.
A user asked, “How do you eat tacos, French fries, burgers, etc? Do you eat Lays with a fork, too?”

Another user exposed Gill’s double standards after sharing a picture of his father-in-law eating food with his hands. He wrote, “Hello Civilised person from America. Here’s your father-in-law, Dinesh D’ D’Souza, eating like this.”

On her husband’s remarks, wife Danielle D’Souza Gill came out in defense, clarifying, “I did not grow up eating rice with my hands and have always used a fork. I was born in America. I’m a Christian MAGA patriot. My father’s extended family lives in India, and they are also Christian, and they use forks too. Thank you for your attention to this matter.”

However, Mrs. Gill’s statement sparked a broader conversation with users calling out, “Your father still eats with his hands, I guess he is not ‘Christian’ enough. Would you deport him?”
