Bengaluru, often hailed as India’s tech hub, has been facing increasing challenges related to its rapid growth, language and infrastructure. With its thriving startup ecosystem and legacy businesses, the city has created millions of jobs.
However, migrants from different parts of India have brought with them a host of problems, including severe traffic congestion, crumbling roads, and rising rents. One of the more contentious debates arising from this influx is the city’s language issue.
A push To Promote Kannada:
Over the past few years, there has been a growing push to promote Kannada in Bengaluru and other parts of Karnataka.
Many reports highlight harassment faced by non-Kannadigas—ranging from auto wallahs refusing passengers who don’t speak the language to shopkeepers overcharging those who speak Hindi.
Despite these challenges, Bengaluru remains the leading city in India for IT jobs.
Amid language controversy, Vikram Chopra, the CEO of Cars24, stirred another controversy with a hiring post that took a jab at Bengaluru’s language issue.
Chopra’s Post:
Chopra shared a post aimed at engineers who wish to work closer to home—i.e., in Delhi NCR. “Still can’t speak Kannada after years in Bengaluru? It’s okay. Aa jao Dilli,” he wrote in his hiring call.
Chopra further added, “We are not saying Delhi NCR is better. Only that it really is.” He encouraged engineers to reach out with the subject line “Delhi meri jaan” if they wanted to return to Delhi, offering a humorous take on the situation.
