A man’s forgotten lottery ticket story which turned into a $1.2 million win for him would make you believe in happy accidents. Michael Chavez’s witnessed a life-changing discovery on the night of November 5, the US Presidential Election Result Day. According to USA Today, he brought a mega million ticket from a liquor store in Los Angeles County but forgot about his purchase later. The lottery officials in a press release said that it wasn’t until his co-worker texted him that he knew his absence from work that made him remember his ticket.
On Election Day results day rather than checking his lottery ticket, he woke up to find out who won the Presidential race. According to Chavez, he forgot to inform his colleague that he wouldn’t be available at the office. But what happened next left him shocked. His co-worker sent him a screenshot of the Mega Millions results asking, “Is that why you not here boss.”
Chavez responded in disbelief, “Holy (expletive) I haven’t checked mine.” The text conversation between Chavez and his co-worker shows the moment Chavez realized he might be a winner. When he finally checked, he matched five out of the six numbers and realized he won $1,214,818. The liquor shop also received a bonus of over $6,000 for selling the ticket.
Chavez told the lottery officials he couldn’t believe his eyes and that he is excited and grateful. “I’ll never forget election night or especially that text,” he added.
