The web browser market has long been dominated by brands like Google Chrome and Internet Explorer, but with the recent launch of OpenAI’s Perplexity browsers, it all might change. Google Chrome currently rules the internet with more than two-thirds of the Global market share.
Perplexity’s New Comet Browser
Perplexity AI is backed by major entities such as Nvidia, Jeff Bezos, and SoftBank. Prelexity’s new browser, called the Comet, is powered by AI that has been enhanced to think, act, and make decisions. Instead of searching and clicking like we normally do, the Comet web browser allows users to ask questions and complete tasks using a chat-like interface. You can compare products, summarise articles, schedule meetings, and even manage your complex tasks all in one place.
Comet is currently available only to users who subscribe to Perplexity’s $200-per month Premium Plan. Wider access would be given through invites later this summer by Perplexity, which has pointed out that it does not use personal data to train its AI.
Open AI Browser On The Way
Reuters has reported that OpenAI is all set to launch its browser in the coming few weeks. This would be a significant step in OpenAI’s plan to be a bigger part of users’ online lives.
Comet interface would be similar to that of the Chat Gpt window for easier use. This would streamline the searching process for the users. The Open Air browser has been built using Chromium, the same open-source code that powers Google Chrome, Microsoft Edge and Opera, giving the browser a strong technical foundation.
In the recent past, a US judge had ruled on Googles unfair monopoly in online search and recommendations – according to a report published by mint. The new perplexity browser can reduce such hegemony that google has in the online web browser segment.
