New Delhi: The ongoing Commonwealth Games 2022 has been giving many moments of cheer to the Indian contingent, especially Weightlifting, but an incident in Birmingham will melt many hearts.
Late Punjabi singer Sidhu Moosewala has brought the two rivals, India and Pakistan, together. Muhammad Nooh Dastgir Butt from Pakistan and the Indian athlete Gurdeep Singh celebrated their win by dancing on Moosewala’s songs.
Butt bagged Pakistan’s first gold at the CWG 2022. While Gurdeep won the bronze medal the 10th in weightlifting for India. The two athletes danced out together in Birmingham Sidhu Moosewala songs playing in the background.

“Gurdeep and I have been very good friends. After the gold, I first congratulated Gurdeep, and later we did a small celebration where we danced to Moosewala’s songs,” Nooh was quoted by the media.
Butt also discusses their friendship by saying, “When I saw the news of Sidhu Moosewala’s death, I messaged Gurdeep to confirm. At my home gym, where I train, I played songs like Jatt Da Muqabla and the recently released Song 295 to set the tempo for my training.”
“I visited India twice and competed in Pune and Guwahati. The kind of love India has given me, no other country has given me. I have more fans from India than Pakistan in the weightlifting community. When I was leaving the hotel in Guwahati, the staff and volunteers were crying. It made me emotional,” he added.
Nooh’s father, Ghulam Dastgir Butt, who himself was also a weightlifter, spoke of the love he got from India by saying, “I get surprised when people talk that India and Pakistan are born enemies. The amount of love and respect India has given to me, we also love Indian players and Hindustan the same. I often talk with my Indian friends like Manjeet Singh and former Indian Weightlifting Federation secretary Balbir Singh. Actually, my day starts with reading their ‘good morning’ messages.”
Gurdeep gave some insights into their friendship by saying, “Nooh and I first met in junior championships six years ago and would share tips about diet. Conversing in Punjabi obviously helped our friendship.”

This shows how both have been born on different sides of the Indo-Pak border but their friendship transcends all boundaries.
