SA Vs IND, 1st T20I: Controversy Erupts As Sanju Samson & Suryakumar Yadav Clash With Marco Jansen – Know More About The Heated Spat

India has taken a 1-0 lead in the four-match series and the second match will be played on November 10, Sunday in Gqeberha.

Team India won the first T20I against South Africa, but a surprising turn of events unfolded after an altercation between wicket-keeper Sanju Samson and South African pacer Marco Jansen. This was the first confrontation between India and South Africa in a T20I since the final of the 2024 T20 World Cup, where India emerged champion. In this match, India opted to bat first after losing the toss to initiate the game, where Sanju Samson went on to etch his name in the history books since he became the first Indian batter to score consecutive T20I centuries.

Heated Exchange Between Marco Jansen & Suryakumar Yadav

The one started when Jansen is said to have complained that Samson collected a throw from the deep on the pitch. Samson retaliated with a sharp retort, and the argument between the two didn’t seem to be anything less than continuous until India skipper Suryakumar Yadav came in and warned Jansen. Some time passed with the tension building and before South African bowler Gerald Coetzee became the third member of the fray.

Umpire’s Intervention

Thankfully, the umpire on square leg intervened to pull the players apart, and the confrontation calmed down. With the situation easing slightly, Suryakumar and Coetzee-both erstwhile IPL teammates with Mumbai Indians-still exchanged a few choice words in a civil manner. The altercation had come over the second delivery of the 15th over Ravi Bishnoi was bowling but things were once again under control in short order.

Sanju Samson played dazzling knock of 107 off just 50 balls and ensured that India reached a total of 202/8 in their 20 overs. The stand-out performer among the bowlers for South Africa was Coetzee, who took three wickets for 37 runs in his four overs, but it wasn’t enough. India has taken a 1-0 lead in the four-match series and the second match will be played on November 10, Sunday in Gqeberha.
