Over the past five years, Reigns has delivered a remarkable performance, capturing the attention of wrestling fans everywhere. His career took a major turn in 2020 when he aligned with Paul Heyman and dominated the company, reigning as champion for an astonishing 1,316 days.
Born on May 25, 1985, Roman Reigns turns 40 today. He has achieved countless milestones in WWE, leaving little left to prove. Given his impact, it’s only a matter of time before he’s inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame. Currently, Reigns is also making gradual moves toward Hollywood, aiming to carve out a successful career in the film industry as well.
What Did Roman Reigns Do Before WWE?
Roman Reigns has had his share of struggles. He battled leukemia twice-first in 2007 and again in 2018. Although he has recovered, some health issues still linger. His 2018 diagnosis forced him to take a break from WWE, but he made an inspiring return soon after.
Before stepping into the wrestling world, Reigns pursued football and dreamed of making it his career. Unfortunately, health issues forced him to give up the sport. To support himself and his family, he worked at a furniture store, where he set up furniture in various offices. He revealed this detail during an interview a few years ago.
Roman Reigns’ Journey in WWE
Roman Reigns has had an outstanding career in WWE and is considered one of the top professional wrestlers in the world. His 1,316-day championship reign is the fourth-longest world title run in WWE history – a feat not seen since 1988. He signed with WWE in 2010 and made his main roster debut in 2012.
From 2014 to 2020, Reigns was portrayed as a “face” (heroic character). During this time, he won the WWE Championship three times, as well as holding the Universal, Intercontinental, and United States Championships once each. He also won the Men’s Royal Rumble match in 2015.
From 2020 to 2024, Reigns played a “heel” (villain) character and captured both the WWE and Universal Championships, which were later unified to form the Undisputed WWE Championship. His legendary reign finally ended when Cody Rhodes defeated him at WrestleMania XL. To date, Roman Reigns has headlined 10 WrestleMania main events – a testament to his status as one of the all-time greats.
