The current Vice President of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) Rajeev Shukla is likely to become acting president in July after the incumbent president Roger Binny attains the age of 70 on July 19, sources said.
Shukla is expected to take up the interim role for three months at the age of 65. The Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the BCCI is to be held in September, coinciding with Shukla’s 66th birthday, he is likely to fight the elections for the regular presidency, sources further added.
Roger Binny, who assumed BCCI presidency in October 2022, replaced Sourav Ganguly after the latter’s three-year term ended. Binny was chosen unopposed as the 36th president of the board.
During Binny’s leadership, Indian cricket found significant success on the world stage, with victories in both the ICC T20 World Cup in 2024 and the ICC Champions Trophy in 2025. His term also witnessed the historic introduction of the Women’s Premier League (WPL), patterned after the immensely successful IPL, providing women’s franchise cricket a platform in India.
