In a nail biting competition between the Gujarat, giant and the Punjab Kings at the Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad, the Punjab Kings defeated the Gujarat Titans by runs. Captain Shreyas Iyer fell short just three runs from his maiden IPL century. He broke his previous highest score of 96 runs that he scored against the same team in 2017 when he used to play for Delhi Capitals(former Delhi Daredevils).

Both openers Priyansh Arya and Prabhsimran seemed in a comfortable position but soon the partnership was broken by proteas’ bowler Kagiso Rabada. Priyansh Arya gave a good hand with the bat by scoring 47 runs in 23 balls with a strike rate of 204.35. He was dismissed by the magic spin of Rashid Khan. Shreyas Iyer’s 97* was the highlight of the innings. Shashank Singh’s cameo of 44 runs in a mere 16 deliveries lead the Punjab Kings to a massive total of 243 in 20 overs.
The newly acquired Mohammed Siraj failed to create an impact with the ball. He spared 54 runs in his four over spell at an economy of 13.5 apart from Sai Kishore, none of the bowlers managed to restrict the runs from the Punjab Kings batters. Sai Kishore was the least expensive bowler in the Gujarat dugout by sparing just 30 runs in his four overs spell. He also picked up three crucial wickets of Glenn Maxwell, Marcus Stoinis and Azmatullah.

Gujarat Titans Innings
The Gujarat Titans came out with an intent to register their first victory of the season. Both the openers Sai Sudarshan and skipper Shubman Gill played a good hand with the bat. Sai Sudarshan smashed 74 runs and seemed promising, but was later dismissed by Arshdeep Singh. The former Rajasthan Royals’ captain Jos Buttler who was released by them last contributed with the bat with a crucial half century of 54 runs. The impact player, Sherfane Rutherford played an innings of 46 runs. Gujarat lost 5 wickets where Marco Jansen and Glenn Maxwell bagged 1 wicket each for themselves while Arshdeep Singh took 2 wickets and a runout of Rahul Tewatia.
