After a tough game, Man United edged out Aston Villa 2-0 to claim the win in the Premier League. Rasmus Højlund put United ahead with a neat goal, but Aston Villa got back into the game through Douglas Luiz after they built up good pressure. Villa appeared ready to draw level again, but Scott McTominay came on the pitch in the last seconds and delivered the winning goal for the visitors.
Villa’s Defensive Frailties And Missed Chances
Although Aston Villa had the ball and were in control of the match for much of it, they had trouble putting their chances away. Not being able to contain Man United up front, especially at important parts of the game, was a big mistake. A lot of those unfortunate mistakes allowed United to score, especially when Højlund opened the scoring and McTominay grabbed the last-minute winner. Ollie Watkins and Moussa Diaby made chances up front, but United’s tough defence and the saves from their goalkeeper stopped them.
What Aston Villa Could Have Done To Win
Aston Villa had to be more clinical in front of goal and concentrate at the back during key times in the game to claim victory. They may have been made to pay for two spells of dominating play had they taken their chances better, especially in the second half when the momentum was with them. And if they had a little bit more composure with the final ball and one or two chances which we would have liked to have taken, it would have been a very different result. And tightening up defensively as United launched their late onslaught might have saved at least one goal.
