Spanish team coach Luis de la Fuente has left Gavi out of the squad that Spain will use for their Nations League quarter-final against the Netherlands in March 20 to 23. Gavi played in his first matches for his Barcelona football club during October after spending eleven months recovering from an anterior cruciate ligament injury but international selection had been anticipated. The Spain national team coach Luis de la Fuente has decided to not include Gavi in his squad. Spanish defender Raul Asencio joins La Furia Roja for his very first national team selection while Inigo Martinez resumes playing after winning the Euro 2024 tournament with Spain. According to De la Fuente the player had performed spectacularly in his season thus far.
De la Fuente And Koeman Announce Squads With Notable Omissions
Spain manager Luis de la Fuente decided against selecting Marco Asensio because Asensio keeps scoring seven times while making eight appearances for Aston Villa during his PSG loan period. In his explanation De la Fuente explained that numerous talented players should be part of this list yet he had to exclude some exceptional candidates. Regardless there are both inclusions and exclusions among the players. The Netherlands National Team received a call-up from Ronald Koeman for Memphis Depay after he scored two goals and provided four assists while playing for Corinthians. Joshua Zirkzee and Stefan de Vrij and Micky van de Ven along with Nathan Ake failed to gain spots in the team selection.
