Former Indian captain Mohammad Azharuddin has expressed his thoughts on the removal of his name from the North Stand and match tickets at Hyderabad’s Uppal Stadium. This decision followed a complaint filed by the city-based Lords Cricket Club in February of this year.
Azharuddin’s Views About This Decision
“There’s no conflict of interest in this. I don’t want to comment, I don’t want to stoop to this level. The cricketing world will laugh at the association. 17 years of cricket, almost 10 years as captain of the side, and with distinction. This is how you treat cricketers in Hyderabad. It’s a very sad state of affairs. We will go to the court, 100%. The law will take its course,” he was quoted as saying by The Hindu.

Why Was This Decision Taken
LCC said that Azhar violated the rules and regulations of the HCA by naming the North Stand after his name, and it should continue as VVS Laxman for all practical purposes. LCC requested Eswaraiah to take action against Azharuddin. His action was labelled as illegal and arbitrary for allowing the Mohammed Azharuddin Stand above the name of the VVS Laxman Pavilion. In a meeting held on November 25, 2019, which was chaired by Azharuddin, a decision was passed to name the North Stand after his name, which was the VVS Laxman Pavilion.
According to a report in Cricbuzz. Eswaraiah passed the order after finding the former India captain guilty. According to him, Azhar has exceeded his authority to benefit himself. A complaint was lodged on February 28, 2025, by the Hyderabad-based outfit Lords Cricket Club, one of the members of the state cricket association.
