Mumbai’s Innings

Mumbai’s opener Rohit Sharma went to the hut early and departed cheaply on just 8 runs. Newly inducted in the squad, English Batter Johnny Bairstow gave a good hand with the bat by scoring 38 runs in 20 balls. Both Tilak Varma and Suryakumar Yadav stabilized the innings for Mumbai but eventually departed for 44 runs and missed a potential half century. Naman Dhir’s quick 37 runs gave Mumbai Indians the conclusion for the innings which Mumbai struggled earlier. Captain Hardik Pandya also smashed 15 runs in 13 balls and failed to create an impact with the bat.

Arshdeep Singh bowled an expensive spell of 44 runs without claiming any wickets. Jamieson bowled a brilliant T20 spell with an economy of 7.50 while claiming 1 wicket as well. Yuzvendra Chahal made a return in the team and also claimed 1 wicket. Azmatullah Omarazai’s 2 wickets also came in handy.

Punjab’s Innings

Punjab Kings’ star openers Priyansh Arya and Prabhsimran Singh came out with an intent to take their team towards victory. Prabhsimran failed to hit big runs today and Priyansh Arya’s 20 runs in 10 balls also could not create much impact. It was Josh Inglis hitting 20 runs in the opening over for Jasprit Bumrah and this led him to a quick 38 runs. But it was the skipper Shreyas Iyer who build the innings alongside Nehal Wadhera when eventually Wadhera had to depart for 48 runs. But Iyer stuck to the crease and smashed his 6th half century of the season. He smashed 87 runs.

None of the Mumbai bowlers, including their ace bowler Jasprit Bumrah, could create an impact. Bumrah could not claim any wickets in a crucial qualifier game against Punjab. Ashwani Kumar’s first ball dismissal of Priyansh Arya built some enthusiasm, but his other wicket came a bit late by dismissing Nehal Wadhera. Skipper Hardik Pandya and Kiwi Speedster claimed 1 wicket each.
