The five-time Ballon d’Or award winner wasn’t included in the nominations due to his associations with Al-Nassr, which is a Saudi Arabian club. Cristiano Ronaldo while speaking Globe Soccer Awards on Friday stated that the decision was unfair. He said, “In my opinion, he [Vincius] deserved to win the golden ball [Ballon d’Or award]. It was unfair in my opinion. I say here in front of everybody. They give it to Rodri, he deserved it too, but they should have given it to Vincius because he won the Champions League and scored in the final.”
Despite being snubbed from the Ballon Dor, Vinicius Jr won the FIFA’s Best Men’s Player award and Best Men’s Player prize at the Globe Soccer Awards. During the Ballon d’Or , Vini Jr looked in a pretty comfortable position to win the golden ball, however, Rodri’s efforts in helping Manchester City win the treble proved out to be handy in his candidature to win the award.
