Injury Curse Strikes Shami Again, Border-Gavaskar Trophy Return In Jeopardy

Shami suffered the scare during the second to last over of Madhya Pradesh’s innings while defending a 190-run target.

India’s star pacer Mohammed Shami experienced an injury scare during Bengal’s Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy match against Madhya Pradesh at the Niranjan Shah Stadium Ground C here on Friday. But he showcased his suppleness and durability by completing his full spell. Despite the brief moment of concern, Shami’s determination reassured fans of his readiness for competitive cricket.

According to Sportstar, Shami suffered the scare during the second to last over of Madhya Pradesh’s innings while defending a 190-run target. In an attempt to stop the ball, Shami had a fall that appeared to nudged his lower back. The pacer was seen clutching his back in discomfort, prompting Bengal’s medical team to rush onto the field. However, Shami was back on his feet and finished his spell penultimate. While bowling the penultimate over of the innings, when Bengal was defending a 190-run target, as soon as he fell, the pacer looked uncomfortable and held his lower back, lying on the ground. Nitin Patel, head of the Centre of Excellence’s medical panel, ran into the field to check on him. Patel and his team have travelled to Rajkot to keep a detailed check on the pacer’s fitness.

The fast bowler has been a mainstay in the Indian fast-bowling lineup alongside Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj. But the Indian team have looked to more younger options like Harshit Rana who has chipped in with a handy contribution on his Test debut at Perth with a total of 4 wickets; three in first innings and one in the second innings.
