Even after Virat Kohli’s wicket fell on the last ball on the third day of the match, Sarfaraz continued to play in an attacking mode against the Kiwi bowlers along with Rishabh Pant on the fourth day of the game and scored the first century of his career in 110 balls.

Sarfaraz Joins The Club Of Legends

With this century, Sarfaraz has become the seventh Indian batter to score a century at number four this century. Along with him, the names on this list include Sachin Tendulkar, Virat Kohli, Rahul Dravid, VVS Laxman, Sourav Ganguly, and Ajinkya Rahane.

Got A Chance In Place Of Gill

Sarfaraz has been included in the Indian team in place of Shubman Gill, who has a stiff neck. The 26-year-old player made his Test debut against England in Rajkot this year. He returned to the pavilion without opening his account in the first innings of this Test against New Zealand, but he made a brilliant comeback in the second innings and made a century partnership with Virat Kohli for the third wicket, who returned to the pavilion after scoring 70 runs.

Sarfaraz’s Brilliant Average

This century is Sarfaraz’s 16th century in his first-class career, where he has scored a century in the second consecutive match. After missing out on a place in the recently concluded Test series against Bangladesh, Sarfaraz made his mark by scoring a double century for Mumbai in the Irani Cup match against the Rest of India in Lucknow earlier this month.

Sarfaraz then became the first Mumbai batter to score a double century in the Irani Cup. Interestingly, Sarfaraz has scored more centuries than half-centuries (14) in his career so far. Sarfaraz’s first-class average is currently the highest among all active cricketers, where he has an average of 69.56* in 52 matches.
