Harry Brook almost made a century when he departed on 99 in the first innings of the first Test match between India and England at Leeds. Brook, who had led a mannered kind of life in his blistering knock, was left stranded in the deep by Shardul Thakur as he did not make it to a ton at his home ground by a single run. A bit after the drinks break during the second session on Day 3, Prasidh Krishna got the much-needed wicket of the visitors. His bouncer game did wonders as Brook attempted to hit it down the long leg, where Shardul Thakur did not take the opportunity very well.

Brook flung his head up, disappointed at having missed a ton at his home ground. At the same time, the English No.5 has made a very unenvied list of being out on the blood-thirsty number. Brook became the third player dismissed on 99 at the ground in the history of cricket in Headingley in Leeds. The last two were Mike Atherton and Saleem Malik. Atherton lost his place on the unfortunate figure against South Africa in the Test of the year 1994, whereas Malik lost the chance in the test match against the Three Lions in 1987.
On Day 3, Brook was previously dismissed twice. He had nicked one off Ravindra Jadeja off 46, but wicketkeeper Rishabh Pant could not hang on. Later, the English batter hit an edge on an 82 to Jasprit Bumrah, but Yashasvi Jaiswal dropped a catch on gully. In the meantime, Brook was previously dismissed out on a duck by Mohammed Siraj but was spared following the overstepping of Bumrah.
