IND Vs AUS: Why Did Australian Bowler Josh Hazlewood Leave The Ground Mid-Game?

The 33 year old had to leave the ground and walk mid game from Gabba due to his calf injury raising concerns about his fitness and chances for the next 2 test matches

Australian bowling maestro Josh Hazlewood, had to leave the ground mid game. After bowling just one over, the 33 year old had to leave the ground and walk mid game from Gabba due to his calf injury raising concerns about his fitness and chances for the next 2 test matches at Sydney and Melbourne against India in the Border Gavaskar Trophy. Hazlewood got the crucial wicket of Virat Kohli in the 1st innings of Gabba test.

The job for team India would be to take advantage of this opportunity as Australia will be playing the remaining Gabba test with one bowler short. This would obviously shift the course of the match but with the full time batters like KL Rahul and Rohit Sharma off the field, it is now the all rounders and the bowlers to that have to carry the innings forward. Australia might not even enforce follow on even if they have an option to. But the question here is whether the Aussie speedster can return in this test or even the following tests in Sydney and Melbourne. Maybe Scott Boland who delivered an impressive performance in the Pink ball test in Adelaide might be the adequate replacement for Hazlewood.

India could exploit Australia’s bowling vulnerability by targeting their reduced pace attack, potentially accelerating scoring rates and applying strategic pressure. Meanwhile, Australia must quickly revise their bowling lineup and maintain a competitive balance. The injury creates tactical opportunities for both teams, with India seeking to capitalise on the numerical advantage and Australia needing to demonstrate remarkable adaptability in their bowling rotation.
