‘I Think It Will Be…’ Moeen Ali Backs THIS Player As India’s Potential Test Captain

After Rohit Sharma's retirement from test cricket BCCI has been in a dilemma about who should be the next test captain. Here's what Moeen Ali thinks.

The former England spinner Moeen Ali believes that Shubman Gill could be the right pick but his inexperience as a leader in test matches is worth a note. Considering Shubman Gill is the favourite to be the next Test captain of India and he is very much likely to begin his tour in the upcoming five-match series against England from 20th June. Rohit Sharma chose to retire in the longest format last week, and since then, there has been a lot of speculation on who will captain India.

Moeen Ali’s Statement

“I think it will be Shubman Gill. Ideally, the BCCI would want Jasprit Bumrah to captain because he is a very good captain, a good leader who has done it before. But because of his injury record, he might not be able to last the whole series,” Moeen Ali told Sky Sports.

“I think they’ll give the captaincy to somebody who’s done decently so far in Test cricket. Gill leads Gujarat Titans in IPL, so they’ve still got a very, very good captain, inexperienced, yes, but a good captain and good brain, but it’ll be a challenge in the English conditions,” he added.

His highest ever score in the format has been 128 which speaks about his ability to play long and influential innings. In his test career till now, Gill has played 5 centuries and 7 half-centuries. His strike rate of 59.92 implies a traditional and patient game that fits the format, but he has proved to possess the temperament and talent to stay in and score at the very top.
