During a post match interview the KKR star spinner Varun Chakravarhy stated his support for keeping Andre Russell on the team while sharing details about their talk regarding the West Indian all-rounder’s future within the Indian Premier League. Varun Chakravarthy gave compliments to Russell during his post-win interview following KKR’s Calcutta win against Rajasthan Royals on Sunday. Russell defeated his critics by scoring his inaugural IPL 2025 fifty-run innings that led his team to victory in the Eden Gardens match against Rajasthan Royals on May 4.
Varun Chakravarthy’s Statement About Russell
“As far as I’ve spoken to him and interacted with him, he still wants to play another two or three cycles of the IPL – which is easily six more years. He looks fine and fit. It doesn’t matter how old you are, as long as you’re contributing to the team. That’s the mindset. In franchise cricket, no one’s going to question that,” Chakravarthy said.
“That’s not true – it’s not like he can’t hit spin. He can hammer spin; we’ve all seen it before. Even in net practice, he smashes it. But today, he chose a different approach, and that was very smart from him. I could see that, and I can tell you it’s part of his development,” Varun said.
Andre Russell’s Performance In IPL 2025
In this season of IPL the KKR star has shown producing an average level of impact thus far. Russell appeared in 11 matches where he accumulated 129 runs with an average of 18.43 and a notable strike rate reaching 161.25. The highest of his season’s outputs was an unbeaten 57 which displays his ability to alter games rapidly. His overall running score might not match the opposition but Russell’s explosive offence capabilities coupled with an impressive attacking strike rate prove he remains dangerous in the finishing phase. The team relies on Russell as their vital asset because he can alter the game’s direction through his powerful striking ability during crucial moments.
