For the fourth consecutive year, Mumbai Indians have lost their opening two games.

Gujarat Titans (GT) achieved an outstanding performance by defeating Mumbai Indians (MI) by 36 runs at the IPL 2025 match held at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. Facing the opening batting slot Sudharsan maintained his batting excellence by producing 196 challenging runs along with his teammates. Mumbai Indians started their batting effort with a sluggish run rate to finish at 160/6 in twenty overs. Mohammed Siraj delivered the deciding blows to eliminate Rohit Sharma who made eight runs from four balls while Ryan Rickelton managed six runs from nine deliveries. For the fourth consecutive year, Mumbai Indians have lost their opening two games.

The partnership between Suryakumar Yadav and Tilak Varma played a crucial role in helping Mumbai recover from their loss to build 62 runs before the third wicket fell. Returning strong figures of (2/18 in 4 overs), Prasidh Krishna managed to eliminate both the opposition batters. Rahul Tewatia made the catch at long-on to remove Varma for 39(36) that was followed by Suryakumar being dismissed for 48(28) by Gill’s similar routine at long-on. Kagiso Rabada resumed his bowling duties to eliminate Hardik Pandya (11 off 17) before the contest was over. Sudharsan scored his second IPL 2025 half-century hitting 63 runs from 41 balls before Boult delivered a perfect yorker to defeat him. Shubman Gill and him started the innings powerfully by building 78 runs before the first wicket fell.

The mounting pressure on his side led Pandya to get rid of Gill when he scored 38(27). Jos Buttler helped Gujarat keep up the momentum after joining the batting line-up. The Mumbai team brought an end to Jos Buttler’s batting stint at 39(24) before dismissing him through Mujeeb Ur Rahman followed by Shahrukh Khan scoring a quick 9 runs off 7 balls. Sai Sudharsan along with Sherfane Rutherford hit 18 runs each from 11 deliveries to build a dominant finish for Gujarat. During the death overs Mumbai produced a superb comeback which reduced GT’s score to under 200.
