Shreyas Iyer did not field for his side in the second innings of the match against Rajasthan Royals, but his team managed to win. While people wondered about Shreyas’ injury, Punjab’s skipper gave a clear explanation about it at the post-match presentation. He wore just one piece of strapping on his right index finger and reported that he got struck with the ball during warm-ups on Saturday, the day before. He further explained that he was not sure about the injury and would require scans to figure it out.
Shreyas Iyer About His Injury
“The reason is the finger over here (pointing at his index finger on his right hand). I don’t know what has happened. Yesterday while practising I got hit, I will have to go and check what the issue is,” Iyer said.

What Happened In The RR Vs PBKS Match
Both Nehal Wadhera and Shashank Singh contributed half-centuries to help Punjab beat Rajasthan by ten runs on Sunday. Owing to Wadhera’s quick 70, Shashank’s steady 59 and Shreyas Iyer’s 30, PBKS ended with a total of 219/5.RR openers Yashasvi Jaiswal (50) and Vaibhav Suryavanshi (40) provided a blazing start for the home side, amassing 76 runs in just 4.5 overs. However, the momentum shifted when Suryavanshi was dismissed by Brar (3/22) in the fifth over, triggering a steady fall of wickets. Despite the setbacks, RR managed to post a total of 209 for 7, with Dhruv Jurel top-scoring with a brilliant 53.
Shreyas Iyer Creates History
PBKS made it to the playoffs, so the captain, Shreyas Iyer, became the first man to lead three separate IPL teams to the post-season. Before he played for Punjab, he led Delhi Capitals to the final in the 2020 season. In 2024, he led Kolkata Knight Riders to win the IPL. Ricky Ponting suggested the Punjab team add the underrated Shreyas, as he shared a successful partnership with him at Delhi Capitals.
