New Delhi: FIFA has banned India from participating in any international games or friendlies. This decision has been taken after stating “third party influence.”
The suspension of Indian football body has caused a lot of chaos for the players as India can’t participate in many significant games. The foremost shock for the country would be inability to host the U-17 Women World Cup that was scheduled to kick start from October 11.
ATK Mohun Bagan is also restricted from taking part in the AFC Cup inter-zonal semi-finals in September. Along with that, Gokulam Kerala also can’t participate in Asian Women’s Club Champions in next week.
Ever since the formation of All Indian Football Federation (AIFF) in 1937, this is the first time that FIFA has banned it. And the suspension letter was received by the general secretary of the AIFF on Tuesday that read, “As a consequence, and in accordance with article 13 of the FIFA Statutes, AIFF loses all its membership rights as of 14 August 2022until further notice.”
“AIFF representative and club teams are therefore no longer entitled to take part in international competitions until the suspension is lifted,” the letter stated.
“The Bureau further specified that the relevant suspension would mean that the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup 2022™ scheduled to take place in India on 11-30 October 2022 could not be held in India as planned and that the resulting next steps will continue to be assessed and referred to the Bureau… if and when necessary,” the letter was signed by FIFA secretary general Fatma Samoura.
